Ageless Grace Ageless Grace is a fitness and wellness program created by Denise Medved. The program consists of 21 simple exercise tools designed for all ages and abilities. These exercises, based on everyday movements that are natural and organic, focus on the healthy longevity of the body and mind. These tools have creative, imaginative names, so they are easy to remember. They are simple to do at home. The movements are designed to be performed seated in a chair, yet they can be done on a bed, standing near or behind a chair, down on the floor, or standing. Almost anyone can do them, regardless of most physical conditions. Each of the Ageless Grace Tools emphasizes a different anti-aging technique, such as joint mobility, spinal flexibility, right-left brain coordination, kinesthetic learning, cognitive function, systemic health, balance, self-esteem, confidence and playfulness The easy-to-learn Tools promote the “three Rs” of lifelong comfort and ease—not reading, ´riting and ´arithmetic—but the ability to respond, react and recover efficiently & safely. Intentionally nourishing the mind-body connection on a daily basis can help improve health and wellbeing, reduce stress, keep the brain agile and the body responsive. When body, mind, spirit and emotions are in balance, health and wellbeing follow. Ageless Grace offers something for each of these dimensions. For the mind, there are right- and left-brain movement activities, numbering sequences of physical movements in patterns that play games with the mind; and there are mind-body directives that encourage the brain to consciously choose and direct the movement of the body in either a random or specific sequence. For the emotions, there are sounds, words, expressions and “pretend” emotions that are used to inspire, stimulate, and release endorphins, while simultaneously allowing the body to release tension and tightness. For the spirit, the movements incorporate imagery, creativity, variety, playfulness, polarities, sound and games, all performed to a wide range of music that encourages self-expression, nourishing the authentic self. For the body, particular attention is paid to: range of motion and optimal function of the 13 major joints of the body; the 20 digits; the relationship of all the parts of the body to the whole; the redevelopment of the ability to move from the floor to standing and back again; the use of sensations such as flexibility, agility, mobility, stability and strength to restore and rejuvenate the body; the mind-body connection; the brain as stimulus for the central nervous system; and improvement of both cognitive and motor function, including balance. Practicing the Ageless Grace Tools for just eight to ten minutes a day will help the body function with optimal efficiency, and with comfort and ease throughout your life. It’s never too late to begin Ageless Grace, and it’s never too early to start! There are lots of ways people try to keep their brains and bodies as young as possible. Brain games, exercise routines and more are aggressively marketed ways to keep our brains and bodies hopping But to improve our brain function, we need to combine physical movement with the brain in meaningfulways.
Ageless Grace activates all 5 functions of the brain (SMACK):
- Strategic Planning
- Memory Recall
- Analytical Thinking
- Creativity and Imagination
- Kinesthetic Learning
Why are Ageless Grace exercises performed in a chair? Ageless Grace is done seated in a chair (preferably with arms). The main reason for this is so that participants will most efficiently use and strengthen their core muscles from the hip flexors to the top of the head. This involves our vital organs, moving energy throughout our bodies and activating the circulation and other systems. The tools improve spinal flexibility, mobility, and right/left coordination. Sitting in a chair also ensures that anyone with balance issues will have a solid foundation from which to move. And range of motion is increased when using a chair. The tools are done to music – which can change from day to day. You can even turn on the radio to your favorite music station and just do three of the tools to the next three songs that are played – which makes the exercises more fun. Ageless Grace is a profound body of work that provides amazing results in all ages, yet it is simple to learn, playful, easy to do, and FUN! Please check back for a special announcement in September for Ageless Grace classes.
